How accessible is your garage gym and what sensory considerations have you taken?
My gym is located in NE Portland and is very close to a freeway, major throughways, and bus lines. Street parking is free and ample! While there are no stairs leading from the driveway to the garage itself, you will need to use stairs to access the bathroom inside my home. Masks are not required but are absolutely accomodated for clients who request them for any reason.
The garage itself has bright overhead lighting that I typically don't turn on until it's dark outside, and although I do have a space heater and fans, I prefer to leave the door open for airflow. I use minimally scented cleaning products. I do have a small speaker for playing music during sessions and generally keep the volume low so we can hear each other. If you have any additional sensory needs, please let me know before our session and I'll do everything I can to accomodate!
Do you offer any discounts?
Discounts are offered for 1-1 personal training sessions that are pre-purchased as a package of 5 or 10, as well as for recurring weekly & biweekly time slots. Unfortunately I do not offer further discounts at this time (I'm a one person operation!). Here is a guide on how to get your sessions reimbursed through FSA/HSA funds!
Do you offer sessions shorter than 75 minutes?
At this time I do not. Previously, I offered 60-minute sessions but found that things got a bit rushed. The 75-minute timeframe allows us to do a check-in, proper warm-up, thorough overview and instruction of the lift(s), and the opportunity to work through variations, modifications, and assistance/accessory movements as needed. I encourage plenty of breaks and rest between sets!
How often do your clients train?
My clients train anywhere from five times a week to once every couple weeks. Frequency primarily is based on a person's goals and preferences, as well as lifestyle habits (schedule, sleep, nutrition, stress, recovery, etc.) and budget (asynchronous training vs. 1-1 sessions). I would say the majority of my athletes train between 2-3 times per week. No matter how often you train, you can and will get stronger!
I've never lifted weights before and don't consider myself to be "athletic." Can I still work with you?
Hell yes. I am a firm believer that, given the right instructions and support for modifications, anyone can lift a barbell. There is no baseline requirement for athleticism or being "in shape" enough to lift weights! I work with people of all shapes, sizes, abilities, and experience levels. Strength starts as a mindset.
I am a seasoned powerlifter/strongman/weightlifter and need help with going over 1-2 lifts to troubleshoot technique and/or pain. What are my options?
Sign up for a 1-1 session with me and we can evaluate what's going on! Together, we will go over your lift and identify any technical errors or improficiencies, and If you are experiencing pain or injury, we will perform a few assessments to understand the root of the issue. From there, we'll create a plan to resolve it via corrective accessory and/or physical therapy-style exercises, and recommendations for program modifications (even if you are working with a different coach). I treat every client with the same level of attention and committment regardless of if they are only seeing me for a one-time session.
What equipment do you have in your garage gym?
I have a Titan power rack, 20kg power bar, 15kg olympic bar, safety squat bar, Kabuki Kadillac bar, incline bench, deadlift jack, plate-loaded cable pulley apparatus with various grip attachments, 25lb throwing sandbag, pull-up bar, tricep dip bars, parallettes, gymnastics rings, and a huge array of dumbbells, kettlebells, bands, blocks, belts, wraps, straps, and more!
Do you only work with queer people?
I work with all kinds of people across a huge spectrum of identities! As a queer strength athlete myself, it is important to me to create a safe haven for LGBTQIA+ folks who haven't felt like they belong in stererotypical gym environments. I welcome allies and queer folks alike with open arms!
